From Lois Lane to Glinda the Good
Now, something truly special. I get to spotlight my friend and 2004-2005 Wagon Wheel alumna, Kate Loprest. Right now she’s touring the country in The Sound of Music as Baroness Elsa Shraeder, but you’ll remember her from her iconic performance as Lois Lane in Wagon Wheel’s 2005 production of It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman!

Want to hear something even sweeter? She came back this summer and sat in section 2 to watch two of our professional shows. She spent time encouraging the next generation of Wagon Wheel artists, including Aaron and Zoltan, both University of Michigan students. And here’s a fun backstage fact: Kate was the first U of M student ever hired by the great Roy Hine. Because of that one decision, we’ve brought in U of M students almost every summer since. Wild how one door opening can impact decades.
Kate is such a treasure to me and so many others. Maybe you have sweet memories of seeing her perform on the Wagon Wheel stage! And maybe you’ll create new memories seeing her perform in The Sound of Music on tour…Either way, she’s part of our story, and you’re part of hers.
