Hello, Pen Pal! Sam from Wagon Wheel here with my first newsletter of 2026. There’s a lot to catch up on and much to yap about, so let’s jump right in!
Right off the bat, I have to share some incredible news. We raised $86,950 in our Year-End Giving campaign! It’s tricky to find the right words when you’re speaking on behalf of so many people, but then I remember I’m really speaking on behalf of a 70-year legacy. One that has changed countless lives, from performers to patrons, first-time Wagon Wheel go-ers to folks who’ve been with us since 1956. If you contributed in any way during our fundraiser, thank you. Truly. Thank you for declaring that the arts matter and that they’re needed right here in Warsaw, Indiana. 2026 is going to be an incredible year. I can feel it. And I can’t wait to spend another one with you. 💛
As I write this, the man himself, Artistic Director Scott Michaels, is in New York on his first tour stop, discovering the best talent in the nation to join us for our upcoming summer season. (Oh, to be a fly on the wall in those auditions.) His job really is that cool, isn’t it? Who knows—He might just discover a future Tony Award winner, and you could see them on the Wagon Wheel stage this summer…that’s all I’m saying…
Our team also got an upgrade in more ways than one! Our Board of Directors grew, and we welcomed a new full-time staff member. I’m honored to share that Dr. Julia Porter, Jamie Plack, Patricia “Patsy” See, Meghan Smith, Emily Shipley, and Travis McConnell have officially joined our Board to help move Wagon Wheel’s mission forward in big ways. If you love any of these people like we do, be sure to thank them for making such a powerful commitment to Wagon Wheel.
And in case you missed my social media announcement, we also have a new Development Coordinator! Meet Carrie Vrabel, absolute superstar. She’s an incredible writer, a Warsaw native, and a huge Wagon Wheel fan. Funny enough, Carrie started with us backstage on the creative side several years ago, then began writing grants for us as a freelance grant writer. One thing led to another, we realized how invaluable she was, and we knew we needed her on the team full-time!
As our Development Coordinator, Carrie will focus on donor development, grant writing and building meaningful connections with people and organizations who want to see a stronger, more sustainable future for our theater. She’s kind of amazing in every way.
🎪 Coming up at the Wheel…Auditions for our Spring Wagon Wheel Community Theatre production, Peter and the Starcatcher, are happening next week on January 20 and 21, with callbacks on the 22nd. Anyone within driving distance of Warsaw who’s at least 18 years old should audition! In simple terms, this play with music tells the story of how Peter Pan became, well, Peter Pan. It’s super ensemble-heavy, and did I mention it won FIVE Tony Awards in 2012? The production will be directed by Wagon Wheel Professional Theatre regular and Conservatory Instructor Ian B. Connor, and it’s extra special because it includes both music and dance elements. There’s a lot to know when it comes to securing your audition slot, so make sure to click HERE if you’re interested. Email Ian directly by clicking HERE. 🍎 The Rockin’ Tale of Snow WhiteBy the time I write you again, Wagon Wheel Junior’s musical, The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White, will have already opened and closed. So make sure you grab your tickets now by clicking HERE. And as always, hit the ATM before the show and bring cash, because our famous bake sale will be happening! You already know how much I love Wagon Wheel Junior. We start rehearsals next week, and I truly can’t wait to work with these kids again. 💌 Love NotesYour Valentine’s Day plans have officially arrived! I’m thrilled to present Love Notes, our Symphony of the Lakes String Quartet concert. 🎻 Last year, this event was a smashing success, so much so that we just had to bring it back! The quartet performed classical favorites alongside swoon-worthy Bridgerton-style covers of songs by Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, and more artists you love. (Amazing, right?!) Whether you’re planning the perfect date night with your one true love or a fun night out with your besties, this concert is an absolute delight. And honestly, it’s pretty great that you don’t even have to leave your hometown for a perfect Valentine’s Day celebration. The concert begins at 8:00 PM, leaving you plenty of time for dinner reservations beforehand (We’re thinking ahead just for you!). Do you have a student in your life who belongs on the Wagon Wheel stage? We want to work with them. Our innovative curriculum focuses on being part of an ensemble, building confidence, and communicating in healthy, positive ways.
